Exploring Providence

Today was my first full day at Brown University; it was a day full of information and exploration of all sorts. The Brown cohort has definitely become acquainted with the policies and procedures needed to insure a safe and joyful stay in the ocean state. Even though I was tired by the end of the day, I still had a ton of fun.
Everyone walking to Ratty, the dining hall.
Our exploration began around 8:45 AM. We chatted about our expectations for the day as we made our way to the dining hall nearest to our dorm rooms. Once we got there, we were amazed at how spacious it was. I don't really understand why people complain about the food. In my opinion it is really not that bad at all. If we were served that food at my school, I would do my happy dance. When everyone was finished with their breakfast, we headed back to the dorms to wait for Ms. Neal who would accompany us to the parent-student info session and a tour around Brown.
Ms. Neal arrived on the time agreed and then we proceeded to walk to the Main Green. There we encountered Bruno the Bear. We then headed to the information tent to grab the schedule for the day. The schedule came in handy later on. We went on the campus tour and got used to the streets and buildings.

Once that was over we headed to the book store to purchase our Brown attire. I couldn't decide what sweat shirt to get! They were also so unique in their own way. I decided to go with a dark brown sweatshirt that displayed the Brown logo in beautiful embroidery. I am very happy with my choice.

As we walked down the street, we spotted a very unusual in individual.  He was carrying a very large snake. We later talked to him and he told us that his snake's name is Angel and that it weight 145 pounds. A "fun" fact about him is that he was bitten by 47 snakes when he was a teenager. Incredible right?!
Ms. Neal found out that we could rent fans without waiting a whole week for them. We got the precious fans and then headed to the Pre-College presentation for parents and students. This presentation gave an over view of the policies and procedures. When it was over, we headed to the dorms to drop off our fans and sweatshirts.

When we got to the dorms, we realized it was very late for lunch so we quickly got to Ratty and had some fulfilling lunch. After this we rushed back to the dorms to go to the student orientation with our RA. We also played some games to bond with everyone on our floor and get to know each other better. Then it was time for dinner.

Our RA took us to Ratty for dinner. There Esme and I me up with Gabrielle and ate together. After eating, we decided to venture out to find a CVS to get some most needed items. On the way there we got a little lost but in the end we made it to CVS. To our surprise it was closed! All that walking for nothing. So then, without much delay we made our way back to Brown without the absence of sweat and fatigue.
Beautiful shot of a river we passed by on our trip.
When we got back to the campus we met up with some of Gabrielle friends who let us tag along with them since they knew a way to a open CVS. We got what we needed for the most part. At this point to headed to the activities fair. We looked at some very interesting clubs.

When we were done at the fair we went back home to have a floor meeting to get more in depth details about the rules. Towards the end we got to play a game to get to know everyone in the floor. It was super fun! Then it was back to the dorms for curfew.

  1. Sounds like a full day. I’m glad you had a chance to get all of that exercise, too. Gotta stay in shape.
