So Much Information

Morning Walk to Breakfast
This morning was nice and relaxing. We had decided to catch the 11:00 tour so we had all morning to unpack, eat breakfast, and relax. We all met up and walked to the Ratty for breakfast at 9:00.  The food wasn’t fabulous so I decided to keep it simple and go with fruit, yogurt, and granola. The dining area was so hot so we ate fast then found our way back to the dorms. Navigating was a challenge since we had only spent last night on campus so we were very reliant on our maps.

We had about an hour of free time before our tour so we each went to our rooms and hung out. I had finished setting up my room so I went and walked around outside for a little to get a better feel of the campus.

We all took a tour together which also helped me get oriented. After our tour we headed to the campus store to get our sweatshirts.  We all deliberated a lot on what to get but eventually we were satisfied with our purchases. It was time to head back to campus and get fans before we had to go to orientation.

Snake Man
On the way back we saw a man carrying a ginormous snake. We were intrigued so we stopped to talk to him. He was extremely enthusiastic about snakes. The one he was carrying around was 140 pounds. He explained how he had gotten bitten 47 times by snakes and how he kept pits full of snakes at home. He was clearly very passionate about everything having to do with snakes.

After our encounter with the snake man we had an afternoon full of orientations. First was the parent and student info session, next was just the student info, and last was the Leadership Institute Info session. At the leadership info session we learned that we actually have homework that is due tomorrow. I know I will be reading late into the night.

After we finished the info sessions we had dinner with our floor mates. I met a lot of great new people from all over the US and one all the way from Tokyo. After diner we weren’t quite ready to go back to our dorms so we went and hung out on the main green for a little. We got to talk about our schools and the differences in the ways that we live our lives.

We had a floor meeting at 8:15 and I knew that I wanted to get some things done before that so I got back to my dorm with a little time to relax. I was able to look over my homework and work on my blog for a little bit before I got to have more fun with my floor mates. During the floor meeting our RA’s gave us even more information. They told us more specific general facts instead of the broad rules and guidelines that we had learned about at the orientations. We also played some icebreaker games and had a lot of fun with our floor mates. After the floor meeting we walked back to our dorms. The ILC cohort tried to gather for a sweatshirt picture but we were all coming back from our floor meetings at different times so it took a half hour. Eventually we were able to head back to our rooms to blog and finish our homework.

  1. And you thought that I had a lot of rules? Welcome to the real world, Erin, where there are rules for everything. :-)
