July 18th commemorates the day that one of
our many dreams came true. We left the comfort of our homes and our dear
California to venture out of our comfort zone and make another state our own.
With our bags packed, we set forth on an expedition across the country to learn
what it truly means to be women in leadership.
Our long journey started before dawn. We all
congregated at El Cerrito High School to receive an informational lecture from
Don which included the itinerary and the do’s and don'ts of packing. Shortly
after we took several group pictures, graciously exhibiting the Brown banner
with great honor.
Then sadly it was time to say our goodbyes,
as the shuttle had arrived. Everyone shared one last moment with their
relatives before starting their three week journey. Tears were shed and hugs
were given but it was time to get going. We assisted the driver with our
luggage. At that point, with heavy hearts, we made our way inside the shuttle
and set way for the San Francisco airport.
We got there without much delay and
hurriedly got our bags checked in. Thanks to the early nature of our quest, we
were all just simply famished. Our wonderful chaperon, Ms. Neal, gave us some
spending money to get some food before our flight departed. Due to bad weather our
flight was somewhat delayed when we got to the airport in North Carolina.
Thankfully have were able to get on the next plane to get to our destination,
Providence.
On our next flight, I made an unexpected
friend, Claire Therien. We spoke about many things including why we were flying
and what were our plans for the rest of the summer. She was simply thrilled to
hear about the ILC and the wonderful things I hoped to learn on my journey. She
was on her way back from throwing her 90 year old sister a surprise party! This
time around the flight did not have any problems landing and we got on our way
much quicker. In no time we were at the car rental waiting for Ms. Neal to get a
van to transport us to the dorms.

We got registered and got our keys as well
as our precious ID’s that would open the door to our sleeping quarters. After
fumbling with our luggage up the stairs, we were ready to go out for dinner. To
our surprise, the keys for the van were gone! After an intense search we decided
to go to Kabob and Curry. I have to say, their food was simply amazing! I ate
everything on my plate and I want to go back there in the near future.
On our way back from dinner, we rushed to
make it in time for curfew which it’s at 11 PM. Thankfully we made it back in
time. I started unpacking and well just getting the feel for my new room for
the upcoming weeks!
Great photo of you and your new friend! Sally (Gabi's mom)
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly why I tell you all to get plenty of rest and not sleep on the plane. You meet so many interesting people when you travel and if you’re sleeping you miss out on the adventure.
