An Exhausting yet Exiting Day

My alarm woke me up at 3 AM and surprisingly I was not sleepy at all. I got dressed and for the last time, I checked if I had packed everything. I was afraid my luggage was going to be over weight.

Ready to go!
As I arrived to El Cerrito High School, I noticed mostly everyone was there ready to go. Thankfully Don mentioned my luggage was just about the right weight. As we waited for the shuttle, we took group pictures and gathered some snacks for the plane. Unfortunately, my parents had to leave early since my dad had to leave to work. It brought me a little down since everyone else’s parents were there with them.

I was sitting down, shivering when Don surprised me out of no where and sat next to me. The way he walked over was pretty funny. As we were talking, he mentioned a new park they were building located on 2nd and Maine St. They have been working on the park for about 11 months now. I was pretty happy about it. I truly believe we need a lot of more parks around. They have a lot of positive out comes. Right when he was telling me the great news, the shuttle finally arrived.

Patiently waiting for everyone to sit in their seats
Once we got to the San Francisco Airport, we went through the checkpoint and waited a while to board on the plane. Everyone was really tired and the airplane was pretty crowded. The little table in front of my seat was broken so I could not really use it. Because I was not feeling well, I took a nap.

When I woke up we still had many hours to go. I grabbed a magazine named American Way which had many interesting facts. This article named “Aqua Cycle” really caught my attention. “Summers hottest fitness trend takes spin class to the pool.” This really fascinated me because people are now exercising inside pools. There is this Hydro Bike which is inside the water and creates a much better workout. Another article that really caught my attention was “Brain Powered Toys” which stated that women took over just 24% of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields based on a report from national science foundation. The toys this woman sells helps little girls boost their interest in STEM.

As we boarded on the other plane, I did not get to sit next to one of the girls. Fortunately, the lady sitting next to me was extremely polite. Her name was Adrian. She mentioned she was from Chicago, Illinois. She is in a convention and they all travel together every year usually in the United States. When she was in high school, she did not go to college right away. She decided to get a job as a secretary. Once she realized everyone was going to college, she attended DePaul University.

Out of no where the plane started making unusual movements. As I looked over at Gabrielle and Mahi we were all spooked. They announcer mentioned to put on our seatbelts which made it seem even more frightening. I was hoping everything was fine. Thankfully, everything went great and we landed safely.

We checked in our dorms and brought our luggage to our rooms. I should have listened to Don we he mentioned many times to pack lightly. It was a big hassle trying to carry a heavy suit case up stair cases with very hot weather.

After we left our stuff in our dorms, we all met up with Komal to go eat at an Indian restaurant, Kabob and Curry. It was delicious. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala. It was chicken with some sort of orange sauce all over it that tasted not too spicy and not too sour. It was perfect with white rice on the side.

It was getting late so the girls and I had to head back to our dorms before our curfew which is at 11PM. After we checked in with our RA, we each left to our rooms. We all finally get to have some rest after a very long day.

  1. Departure Day is always so tiring for a lot of reasons. The pre-departure excitement always wears you out; getting out of bed at a time when you might normally be going to bed is another; the time zone change never helps and even the heat and humidity will zap your strength. And then there’s spending all day on airports and airplanes--never fun.

But now you’re in your dorm room and can spend a nice night resting before Orientation.
